Actor Dhanush and director Aishwarya Rajinikanth have officially parted ways after 18 years of marriage. The Chennai Family Welfare Court granted their divorce on November 27, marking the end of their relationship, which began with a grand wedding in 2004. The decision follows their joint announcement of separation in January 2022, where they emphasized mutual respect and the need for privacy.
The court proceedings had been ongoing since 2022 but faced delays due to absentees from both sides. On November 21, Dhanush and Aishwarya appeared in court, expressing their firm decision to separate, which led to the final verdict being delivered on November 27. Both parties stated that irreconcilable differences made it impossible to continue their marriage.
Throughout their 18-year journey, the couple shared roles as partners and parents to two sons, Yatra and Linga. Despite their separation, they remain committed to co-parenting their children and have requested public understanding during this transitional phase.
This legal development coincides with Dhanush’s ongoing dispute involving actress Nayanthara and Netflix. The actor has filed a petition with the Madras High Court alleging copyright infringement over the use of footage from his production Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in the Netflix documentary Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale. The case is still under deliberation, with significant legal proceedings taking place.
As Dhanush and Aishwarya embark on independent journeys, their divorce reflects a mutual decision to prioritize personal growth and individual paths while maintaining familial responsibilities.
